Good morning East Atlanta!

James here - last week, my wife and I dined with a couple of soon-to-be newlyweds who both shared how much they enjoy reading the Anthem every week. Like, genuinely look forward to reading it each week.

It really warmed my heart. I felt really proud of the work we’re doing here.

And I love making the Anthem, too. I’ve gotten to know so many new businesses, cool places to eat, had FOMO from about 1,000 events that are hard to go to as a parent with a toddler. Plus, I get to work with one of my closest friends every week.

This is awesome.

Now that I’ve put my soap box away, here’s this weeks Anthem.

P.S. - Happy Birthday to Anthem reader Ryan P. (5/11). Have a day Ryan!

The Anthem is made possible in part by El Tesoro, a neighborhood treasure serving good quality food at reasonable prices. See The Menu.

🌯 There’s another Community Market popping up at El Tesoro this weekend! Shop for crafts, pottery, vintage goods, jewelry and artwork while sippin’ on a margarita this Saturday from 12-5 pm.

🎉 Marcus Bar and Grille is throwing a block party tonight! Live music, guest chefs, pop up shops, and good food. Reservations advised.

🧑‍🏫 To honor educators for Teacher Appreciation Week, Ford’s BBQ is offering $10 off for any educator through Sunday. Knowing Connor, he’s already taken his wife there three times this week to honor her hard work at a local elementary school.

🐝 Does all honey taste the same? Absolutely not. Find out just how much honey can vary at Opo Coffee this Saturday, with honeys from around the world. Tickets required.

🌯 Poco Loco is serving "The Chupacabra" this week only, a breakfast burrito built around a Staplehouse chicken sausage that Chef Ryan describes as "fire with eggs." That paired with rajas y tomatoes con crema, homefries, 5N Farm eggs, quesadilla cheese, and a house-made tortilla.

🥪 Wrecking Bar Brewpub just added the Mojo Pork Sandwich to their menu: roasted Riverview Farms pork, Havarti, mustard, house pickles, and avocado on a TGM sesame Cuban roll.

🍺 3 Taverns Brewery released a Belgian style white ale called “Easy Arrival” that sounds perfect for warmer weather.

🍕 Plants and Coffee… and Pizza? The Victorian in EAV is hosting Phantom Pizza on Saturday from 12 - 6, where they’re also having a pop up marking.

🌭 Speaking of EAV… there’s a new GLIZZY HOLE AT 529 (strict all-caps brand standards apparently). Stuff your face with hot dogs starting at 5pm til late every night.

🍡 King of Pops just dropped the Pop Cup, 8 limited popsicle flavors inspired by the countries competing in Atlanta this summer. Collect all 8 wrappers, and you're in the running for World Cup Semifinal tickets.

🐔 Krog Street is getting a little spicier. Nando’s Peri Peri Chicken officially arrives at Krog on Friday and they’re hosting a “pre-opening” party to everyone who comments on this Instagram post.

🍺 Evergreen teamed up with Halfway Crooks to brew Hubert, a beer made with Evergreen’s sourdough bread and named after their sourdough starter. The release party was Wednesday, but hopefully some bottles made it to the taproom. Either way, cool collab from two of our favorites.

🫖 Big Softie brought back a cult classic: Thai Tea is on the menu for May in honor of AAPI month.

🏘️ What does this side of town get right that other parts of Atlanta don't?
Local, small businesses - especially woman-owned! We have a lot of them, and it matters.

Share a way for readers to support you or something you care about.
Neighbor In Need (Kirkwood, East Lake, Edgewood): Focuses on helping elderly homeowners in the area age in place by providing free, emergency home repairs.

Introducing… Jelly

Neighborhood: East Atlanta Village

About: Jelly was the last of her litter adopted, probably because of her eye. People missed out because she is a sweet and gentle cat with everyone.

Fun Fact: She never meows, only a quiet peep.

Thank you to April for sharing Jelly with us.

🚦 There’s high potential for awful highway traffic this weekend. There will be a full closure of all North and South lanes of 285 on the Westside, right around I-20. They’ll be closed all weekend and construction could last a full month. Joy. Check out the map here.

Delta announced they would no longer offer beverage service on flights less than 350 miles — an increase on their previous restriction of 250 miles. For reference, Jacksonville is about 350 miles away.

📺 Georgia icon Ted Turner passed away yesterday. Founder of TBS and CNN, owner of the Atlanta Braves and Ted’s Montana Grill, a staunch environmentalist and an avid sailor. Turner was 87.
