Good morning East Atlanta! We’re up to 4,505 subscribers and we’re thankful for every one of you.

Well, the World Cup is finally here. Your favorite restaurants, businesses, and construction workers have been preparing for this 39-day stretch for years.

Atlanta is hosting 8 World Cup matches, but you can watch all 104 matches in the event at your favorite spots around the city. We’ve tried to highlight a good mix in today’s Anthem along with a ton of other things happening in our part of town this weekend.

Happy Birthday to Anthem reader Elise! (6/13)

For now, let’s get into the Anthem 👇

The Anthem is made possible in part by El Tesoro, a neighborhood treasure serving good quality food at reasonable prices. See The Menu.

🌯 El Tesoro’s new South Downtown location is NOW OPEN! There’s a coffee bar, all your favorite menu items (Connor’s is the mulita) and an amazing patio. Go check it out!

🍷 The Little Bear team is opening a wine bar in EAV. Bar Schmutzi, named after the “schmutz” on their new Great Pyrenees Diego’s nose. The menu will feature small-batch, minimal-intervention wines, and is slated to open early 2027. Jarret, if you’re taking reservations, put James down for 2.

🎽 Jolene Jolene, Atlanta’s home for women’s sports, received a stellar review in Jezebel: “Utopia Achieved!

🥉 If you’re in the mood for Rosé, head to either location of 3 Parks Wine for the Rosé edition of their weekend wine flights.

🌭 There’s only one spot left in the hot dog eating contest at Red’s Beergarden on July 5.

🎫 No ticket? Here’s some luck: Talat Market is open on Monday, serving Singha beer and meat on a stick.

🍀 A wee Irish pub O’Boyce’s is establishing a brief residence at Poor Hendrix for three upcoming Wednesdays.

🥢 The good folks over at JenChans could use our help as Jen faces another year of cancer treatment. Learn more here.

🌽 Corn on pizza? Crusher’s says yes. Their new pizza of the month: Elote Street Corn Pizza.

🍎 There are four new restaurants with stalls at the Sweet Auburn Curb Market which will also be open Sundays every week in June.

WORLD CUP SPECIALS - NOTE: All of your favorite sports bars will be showing games and may have specials. We’re highlighting some here that may not typically show sporting events.

🍔 Smileys in Decatur has 2 large TVs and gameday specials.

🫔 Pink Peregrine is hosting an incredible but limited World Cup experience, with a prix fixe menu, craft cocktails, curated music, and a private viewing experience of the USA Paraguay game on Friday. Menu and details.

🇺🇸 Homebar is throwing a party for the USA opener against Paraguay with tequila prizes.

📣 Voicebox Bar is hosting match day parties for select games, including Friday’s USA game. They’ve got prizes, games, lots of screens, and drink specials.

🐶 The Family Dog is showing every game live and has cocktails inspired by teams playing in the World Cup.

Rep your team’s gear at San Francisco Coffee during the World Cup and get 10% off. (PS - here’s their summer menu).

🍺 WIN FREE BEER FOR A YEAR?! It could happen if you watch World Cup games at 3 Taverns Brewery. Details here.

🍒 For the first time in history, Red’s Beergarden is showing sports. If you’re looking for a more chill experience, catch most World Cup games there with $15 pitchers.

OTHER PLACES TO WATCH GAMES:

Anthem Sports Bar Guide — Written more broadly as a sports guide, you can guarantee all these bars will all be showing the games.

Eater Atlanta’s Best Soccer Bars — no surprise, most of them are on the Eastside. This is a solid list, some underrated spots in here. Fox 5 has a list of bars too — again, many on the Eastside, but not as deep as Eater’s list.

James’ take: You’ve got two options here - follow the crowd, or make your own.

  • Crowd: Go somewhere like Brewhouse — known for showing soccer — and be in a crazy, packed bar. Great environment, hard to get drinks or tables. Arrive early.

  • Your Own: Go somewhere that doesn’t show games at all. Intimate setting, likely with a handful of die-hard fans. Heaps Pies comes to mind, with fish n chip Friday’s and Guinness on tap.

This week's Events are presented by Camp Days. If your summer childcare strategy is still "we'll figure it out," it's time to meet Camp Days. They've done the hard research for you… hundreds of Atlanta-area camps across sports, arts, STEM, outdoor adventures, and more, all in one place. Less chaos, more camp. Search camps at campdays.com.

  • Decatur Watch Party - All through the World Cup - Decatur is going all-out for the World Cup. Big Boi kicks things off with a concert today, and there’s more scheduled throughout the Cup. They’re also showing games on a gigantic screen in the square, and several bars in the near vicinity (Brickstore, O’Sullivans, Twains) will have the games on, too. | FREE | More Info
