What’s up East ATL? James here. After two weeks of moaning about the weather, we have achieved Peak Atlanta Weather: Sunny with highs in the 70s and not a raindrop in sight.

Just in time for another classic Atlanta weekend.

Over the weekend, we’ve got Whiskey Fest at Pullman Yards (tix available), Landlocked Oyster Fest in Decatur (sold out), as well as the L5P Halloween Parade (free and always fun). There’s a slew of free community events throughout the weekend.

Get outside, this is as good as it gets.

Before we get into it, Happy Birthday to Anthem reader Brandon W. (10/17). Have a great one Brandon!

Ok, here’s this week’s Anthem 👇

The Anthem is made possible in part by El Tesoro, a neighborhood treasure serving good quality food at reasonable prices.

🌮 $2 quesadillas and half-off chips and salsa. That’s Happy Hour at El Tesoro, Tuesday through Thursday from 3-6pm, plus drink specials and the Strawberry Frozen Marg. They’re also celebrating National Mezcal Day at every location on 10/21.

🦪 Kick off Oyster South Landlocked weekend at Tio Lucho’s with an incredible Happy Hour Special: Friday from 5-7 pm, you’ll get 2 drink tickets and fresh, local oysters with a free RSVP.

🐟 Fred’s is known for its cheesesteaks, but the new G’s Fish Filet might steal the spotlight: cod, American cheese, pickles, and remoulade on a TGM Bread sesame bun, with salt and vinegar fries on the side.

🍹 Victory Sandwich Bar has a new cocktail called Cinder My Love, made with mezcal, Etna amaro, black walnut bitters, cinna-piña syrup, and lemon.

🌈 Side Saddle Wine Bar bartenders teamed up with spirit brands for a Pride Bartender Showdown running through 10/19. $1 from every drink goes to each bartender’s nonprofit, and the top seller earns an extra $200.

🍋 El Tesoro teamed up with the High Museum of Art for its 100th anniversary on the Ain’t No Thang, a lemon pepper margarita with Pedro Furtivo reposado, cognac, Alma Tepec liqueur, lemon, and honey, served with a salt, sugar, lemon, and pepper rim. It’s $13 at all three locations through 12/31.

🍗 Get to Bona Fide Deluxe before Sunday. Their Chicken Parmesan special stacks fried chicken thighs, marinara, mozzarella, and provolone on a garlic butter hoagie, and it’s only around this week.

☕ Vote early, caffeinate often. Your “I Voted” sticker gets you a free drip coffee at The Daily through 11/3.

🍫 Amano pours espresso caramel under a slab of chocolate torte and tops it with whipped cream. It also happens to be gluten-free.

🐑 Choate Family Farms lamb, a housemade benne bun, and gruyère. That’s the Monday night lamb burger at Last Dance.

👕 Thumbs Up Diner is hosting a T-shirt design contest for Atlanta-area artists, and the winning design goes on a Thumbs Up shirt. Submissions are due 11/11.

🥪 Friendly reminder to keep an eye on Flatiron’s Instagram for their daily specials. A recent one was an adobo-marinated grilled chicken sandwich with avocado, jack cheese, tomato, and lettuce on a pretzel bun. Drooling -Connor

🥐 Bread & Butterfly just launched Golden Hour from 2-4pm on weekdays, with $10 classic cocktails (Kir Royale, Gimlet, Martini, Manhattan) and bites like a $10 Grilled Gruyère and a $20 Pancake & Mimosa.

⌚ If you’ve always wanted Sugarloaf in the afternoon, now’s the time to show up: They’re testing out new hours this week, shifting their schedule so they can stay open later.

🍂 Is it summer or fall? Gene’s doesn’t know either, so they’re making a Penicillin: blended Scotch, lemon, ginger, honey, and a smoky Peat Monster float.

🍄 La Semilla brought back an old favorite: fried lion’s mane from Catawba Mushroom Partners, served over a mole pipián verde made from Doña Ana’s family recipe.

🎃 Clockwork is making handmade tortellini with candy roaster squash, an heirloom first grown by the Cherokee that gets sweeter the longer it’s stored. It comes with Parmesan cream, Badger Flame beets, crispy sage, pepitas, and brown butter vinaigrette.

Introducing… Phoebe

Neighborhood: East Atlanta

About: Phoebe is a six year old Staffweiler (Rottweiler/ Amstaff) rescued after being abandoned during the pandemic. As a true pandemic adoptee and bully breed, she is a hardcore Velcro dog that must be touching or laying on top of you at all times. She enjoys napping, playing fetch (only with her red Kong ball), licking people, and asking for food.

Fun Fact: Many people doc Rottweilers tails and don’t know that they are actually quite long. Unfortunately, she came to us with a broken tail leaving it not only extremely long but with a hook shape at the end that sometimes catches around objects at her level. We call it her monkey tail.

Thank you to Caitlin for sharing Phoebe with us.

If you want your pet featured in the Park Pet Supply Pet of the Week section of the Anthem, fill out this form!

🏀 After some contentious back and forth, the Atlanta Dream will host their WNBA Finals games at State Farm Arena, coming up on 10/21 and 10/24. Tickets for both go on sale Friday at 10 am at atlantadream.com.

🪡 The first renderings of The Stitch project were unveiled this week. The Stitch is a proposal to cap part of Atlanta's Downtown Connector with a park, with plans to begin street construction next year.

🚍 What does the Iran War have to do with school busses? Unfortunately, most of them run on diesel fuel, which is extremely expensive right now. School districts are consolidating routes, cutting trips and squeezing more efficiency out of their fleets.
