Good morning East Atlanta! All 5,384 of you.

James here. Last weekend, I was at a wedding in Maryland. After dinner, we wandered around looking for a drink, when a sudden sensation took over me. A cool breeze, a distinct lack of humidity… could it be? Yes, it felt like Bourbon season.

Instinctively, I had my first old fashioned of the year at McClintock Distillery (with Rye whiskey, if you’re wondering). It was a glorious evening.

As you’re probably aware, the sensation did not last long. I returned home to a blanket of humidity and daily thunderstorms. We are not quite there in Atlanta.

But as I type this, it’s 83 degrees on August 5th. Maybe, just maybe, Fall will appear a tad early this year — and as we know from our “favorite season” poll, Fall is by far the best season in Atlanta.

Alright, back to reality. We’ve got another great weekend ahead of us… Let’s get into this week’s Anthem 👇

The Anthem is made possible in part by El Tesoro, a neighborhood treasure serving good quality food at reasonable prices.

🌯 Quick one on El TesoroThey have a happy hour now from 3-6pm M-F that includes $2 chips & salsa and they also just started pouring frozen margaritas. My wife went to check it out yesterday for “research”… delicious as usual. -Connor

🐟 Argosy dropped a Summer Seared Trout plate (Idaho rainbow trout, quinoa, summer corn, cauliflower two ways, tomato, garden herbs) and in their words it's "here til it's not," so don't wait around.

🍦 Grant Park Coffeehouse brought ice cream back, and timing couldn’t be better. We’re trying every possible method to beat the heat these days.

🥕 OK if there’s another sign that Fall is right around the corner it’s gotta be a carrot cocktail: Gunshow has a new NA Highball featuring carrot syrup with tarragon and lemon.

🌶️ Beksa Lala is bringing the heat to Breaker Breaker every Monday in August, 5-9pm, with a Hungarian pepper chopped chicken sando, Cod Paprykarz, and chilled uszka dumplings tossed in Soup Belly's chili oil.

🍹 Bread & Butterfly has three summer drink specials up for a limited time: the Rhapsody in Blue, the rum-and-Campari Flamingo, and a zero-proof Sorbet Spritz.

☕️ Teachers get free drinks at Taproom daily through 8/9. Huge shoutout to Taproom and Highland Mortgage for making this happen.

🍖 Last Dance added a Ham & Figs plate to the menu: Benton's country ham, figs, chèvre, lemon verbena oil, magnolia vinegar, and sourdough-pecan dust.

🥪 The Hail Caesar is back at Bona Fide and Connor is not going to miss it this time.

🐟 FYI… Ford's BBQ smokes salmon over oak wood every Friday, served as a platter with sides or piled on a salad, available while it lasts.

🍩 Revolution Doughnuts dropped their August menu, easing into late-summer flavors with returning favorites like cinnamon horchata pudding, hazelnut praline, and cherry pie.

🌯 The Albert's August Burger Wrap of the Month is a Greek Wrap with grilled chicken, house-made tzatziki, fresh Greek salad, and romaine, served with a side.

🍔 Smiley's Burger Club dropped a Lasagna Burger with Vinny's Mutual Aid Bakery: double patties, mozzarella, basil puree, parmesan ricotta, and pomodoro. Limited time.

🍗 Heads up… Girl Diver is doing $1 wings on Mondays, all day. They also have bottomless martinis from 12-3pm. Not sure we’d combine the two specials, but you certainly can if you want to.

🐔 Mary Mac’s has a Family Meal special to take your mind off the chaos of back to school: 12 piece fried chicken with yeast rolls and two sides.

🥪 Sugar Loaf added The Balkan Bird to the lunch menu from Chef Nebi: lemon-pepper chicken, Albanian-style tzatziki, and a spicy berbere red pepper puree on toasted ciabatta.

🍕 Lloyd's August pie of the month is a Breakfast Pizza loaded with egg, sausage, bacon, cheddar, tomato, onion, and jalapeño, all covered in maple syrup.

🧩 If you’re a whiz at puzzles, head over to Jolene Jolene tonight (tickets required) for a speed puzzle contest.

🎯 James’ Pro Tip: Last week, we wrote about Poco Loco’s take on a BLT featuring local tomatoes and pork belly (Tomato Torta). While delicious, a BLT it was not. However, a friend put me onto their smoked mahi mahi dip, which I paired with a Sourdough bagel from Evergreen Butcher & Baker. DIVINE!

Introducing… Oscar

Neighborhood: Grant Park

About: We adopted Oscar in 2018. He’s the cuddliest, floofiest boy with an epic tail and grinchy paws. A cat-like personality, he’s attached at the hip with his MAS sister Cece, loves walks through Oakland Cemetery, and will happily devour a pup cup from King of Pops. Just don’t expect to find him at the dog park - he’s a little shy, highly selective, and does his own thing.

Fun Fact/Special Talent: Defending mom from people on scooters and curling himself into the shape of many a baked good as he takes his required 20 hours of naps a day.

Thank you to Nicola for sharing Oscar with us.
