Good morning East Atlanta! All 4,905 of you!
Let’s face it, it’s been an epic few weeks in Atlanta. While this weekend may not hit the high notes of recent weeks, it’s certainly not dropping off like the USMNT did against Belgium (yikes).
Apparently the World Cup is continuing on without the US, and there’s plenty of street festivals, block parties, and ice cream delights to keep our spirits high.
Let’s get into this week’s Anthem 👇
🌯 Lots going on at the Edgewood El Tesoro this week. They’re showing the World Cup action (Games are today, tomorrow, and Saturday) and they’re running their always-awesome Community Market at new hours on Saturday (3-8pm).
🕹️ Joystick Gamebar is spending its final week on Edgewood, with every game they can put on free play from now through their last day this Sunday, July 12. Go play, go hang out, go say goodbye to the Edgewood location.
🍕 Lloyd's pie of the month for July isn't a pie at all, it's calzones. Choose your fighter: Meat Lovers (pepperoni, bacon, sausage) or Veggie Lovers (mushroom, spinach, garlic).
🌭 Estoria is running daily hot dog specials all July, with a rotating specialty dog available all day, every day, or you can just take it plain.
☕ Harbor Coffee's July guest roaster is La Cabra, the Denmark-born roaster now in NYC, Bangkok, and Oman. Snag a bag or try the Potosi on drip this week.
🥪 The first rule of Bona Fide Deluxe's new weekly special, the Fight Club, is to eat it. Inside: thick cut bacon, pit ham, crispy shredded potato, griddled onion, american cheese, pickled jalapeño, and maple mayo on a toasted Alon's hoagie.
🧈 Casseroles just restocked their freezer with Callie's Hot Little Biscuits, from country ham and cheese & chive to cinnamon and gluten-free buttermilk.
🍸 Ladybird asked whether Yoo-hoo belongs in an espresso martini, then made one anyway. The Yee-Haw is Ketel One, espresso liqueur, and chocolate Yoo-hoo and comes in a Yoo-hoo bottle.
🍩 Blueberry and peach season is in full swing on Revolution Doughnuts' July menu, from a Peach Almond Crumb to Blueberry Basil to a Fresh Peach Slider.
🍑 It’s Peach Week at Big Softie! Enjoy the peach lemon verbena sundae this week. The cherry on top: each sale generates a donation to CURE Childhood Cancer.
🍷 Free flight night is back at Finca to Filter tomorrow - enjoy a lineup of wine from Gulp Hablo at their O4W location.
🌯 Poco Loco's breakfast burritos this week are The Vhagar with PSM maple bacon sausage, green chile creamed corn, and 5N Farm eggs, or the veggie Vermithor with roasted oyster mushrooms and butternut squash. $10 each, Wed through Sat until 1pm, or make it a bowl for $2 more.
⛑ Two Atlanta restaurants are raising funds for victims of the devastating earthquake in Venezuela: Arepa Mia in Avondale (ongoing), and Tio Lucho’s in Poncey-Highland, who are hosting an event on Monday, 7/13.
This week’s events are brought to you by EastLake Tree Services. Speaking of updates, is it time to prune some trees in your yard? Get an opinion from a certified arborist on the tree that is leaning over your home? Request an estimate here.

This week’s Updates are presented by our neighbors at The Spotted Trotter, a boutique charcuterie house and butcher shop on Moreland making house-cured salami, fine meats, and cheeses. At The Spotted Trotter, every ingredient is responsibly handled with respect, from the farm to your table. Anthem readers get 15% off online or in-store with code ANTHEM.
⛳ Green Office is the newest official partner of Decatur Parks & Recreation, bringing golf leagues and group lessons to town.
🏡 The birthplace of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. is a historic Atlanta landmark in the Old Fourth Ward (well, technically a national landmark but you get the point). After years of renovations, the home is finally open for touring again. Dr. King lived in the house from 1929 to 1942.
☀ If you’re feeling the heat as much as we are, then sunscreen has been your friend this summer… or has it? Rates of skin diseases are growing, as is skepticism about sunscreen. Later this year, a new sunscreen ingredient that’s already popular in Europe and Asia will hit the US market. Time will tell if people use it.
📚 Yesterday, Barnes and Noble re-opened their store in Edgewood (although they’re calling it a new store). They plan to open two more stores in the Atlanta area this year. Speaking of books, we’re finalizing a guide highlighting the great (locally-owned) bookstores on the East Side. Stay tuned.
🕹️ Volume 3 of Anthem Associations is out now… It’s our take on NYT Connections.
