Good morning East Atlanta!
James here. In my 14ish years living in East Atlanta, I’m not sure I can remember a month, or specifically a weekend, with so much happening. The World Cup is in full force. We’re in the middle of Pride Month. Juneteenth is on Friday, Father’s Day is Sunday.
We know how quickly the weather can change here, but for now, the high temperatures are 78 on Saturday and 80 on Sunday.
I implore you, whatever you have going on…. Get. Out. Side. There’s something happening for everyone in East Atlanta this weekend.
We’ve done our best to curate it all here, but frankly, it’s impossible. Seriously, go have a blast.
Before we get into it… Happy Birthday to Lindsay H! (6/21).
Now, let’s get into the Anthem 👇

The Anthem is made possible in part by El Tesoro, a neighborhood treasure serving good quality food at reasonable prices. See The Menu.
🌯 El Tesoro’s new South Downtown location is NOW OPEN! There’s a coffee bar, all your favorite menu items (Connor’s is the mulita) and an amazing patio. Go check it out!
🧆 Poor Hendrix added a Lamb Kawarma entree to the menu that looks delicious.
🥓 The McBriddle has landed at Breaker Breaker: bacon, egg, and cheese pressed between two maple pancake buns. House-made sausage and meatless versions are on the table too.
🥪 The How Bazaar at Bona Fide Deluxe is only around through Sunday: spiced yogurt-marinated chicken thigh and muhammara on a toasted Alon's Tuscan hoagie.
☕ Did you know? When you buy a bag of coffee at Taproom, you get a 12oz cup for free.
🌱 Home Grown turned 16 this week and used the moment to thank the neighborhood that's kept the doors open since day one. If you've got an old photo or favorite memory from over the years, they'd love to see it.
🍉 Sugarloaf's new seasonal special is a Watermelon Matcha Lemonade, part of the matcha lineup they just rolled out using organic ceremonial-grade leaves from Tenzo.
🍷 Get 10% off wines from Black-owned producers tomorrow at Finca to Filter in celebration of Juneteenth.
🍳 Atlanta chefs and restaurants were shut out of the James Beard Awards yet again. Booooooooooooo. Check out the winners here.
⚽ Poco Loco's weekly meat burrito is The GOOOOOOAAAAL, a $10 World Cup tribute made with B-Side breakfast sausage, rajas con crema, hash browns, 5N Farm eggs, and quesadilla cheese. The sausage comes from James Beard winner Terry Koval, so this burrito is not playing rec league. Through Saturday only.
🔊 Estoria 97 is another one of those places in town that practically never shows sports, but has made the executive decision to show World Cup matches with game audio this summer.
🍕 Crushers Pizza is running a World Cup deal all tournament long: add 10 wings to any large Detroit pizza for $10. Online only, code WORLDCUP at checkout.
🍗 Sweet Auburn Barbecue is turning every World Cup match into a watch party with $1 wings and $3 house lagers, plus a rotating wing flavor inspired by one of the week's marquee games.
🍺 Wylie & Rum is airing matches all tournament long with rum cocktails, jerk chicken, and guava barbecue ribs, plus a free beer every time Team USA scores. Worth posting up in Reynoldstown for.
⚽ Numbers don't lie. Manuel's Tavern is built for World Cup watching with 16 TVs, 41 drafts, 95 tables, and lots of parking.
🍸 TWO urban licks is pouring $10 cocktail specials every day through July 15, with the lineup rotating each month. Good pairing for a pre-match patio hang on the BeltLine.

Special Talent: Her signature move is knocking the Amazon Fire remote clean off the table.

🚂 The train fiasco at MARTA continues. New trains were supposed to debut before the World Cup, but now there’s no clear timetable for rolling them out at all. MARTA CEO thinks this will be a minor blip on the radar in the long-run. Probably true, still embarrassing.
🏠 A new shelter for unhoused individuals opened this week on Flat Shoals Rd. The campus will serve as a centralized point of access for housing assistance, workforce development, behavioral health services, healthcare referrals, and other essential resources.
