When I read my own words about a hint of Fall in last week’s Anthem, I knew I’d cursed us. Sure enough, nothing but 90-degree weather for the next 10 days. I should have known better… feel free to direct your damnations my way.

WITH THAT SAID! We are planning an official Anthem happy hour/event (I’m confident Connor will have a nice alliterative name for it) that may or may not be at El Tesoro sometime soon… and we should DEFINITELY have a hint of fall by then (🙏 🙏 🙏)… in fact, Hint of Fall might be a great name for a cocktail. What do you think?

Anyway, details on that event soon. There are plenty of great things happening this week, so let’s get into the Anthem 👇

The Anthem is made possible in part by El Tesoro, a neighborhood treasure serving good quality food at reasonable prices.

🌯 Today and every Thursday = Birria Thursdays at El TesoroOne of the few things that will get Connor to switch it up from his regular order (steak mulita).

☕️ Sojourner Mobile Coffee is setting up shop regularly at Intown Ace Hardware in Decatur. Catch them at 1404 Scott Blvd Wednesday-Friday from 8a-2p. To celebrate, they’re offering Anthem readers 20% off (expires 8/16). I met Matt from Sojourner via a fb Marketplace deal and he’s good people. Go get some coffee if you can! -Connor

🍊 We enjoyed reading this piece on Athens-based Creature Comforts' new aperitivo, Sapelo. It's made with the Sapelo sour orange, a rare heirloom citrus that's been on Georgia's coast since the 1600s, and each sip helps fund a community-owned orchard for the Gullah Geechee residents of Sapelo Island who've kept the fruit alive. Find it locally at places like Boccalupo, Ticonderoga Club, Babygirl and Gene's.

🥟 Clearly, Connor and I are both excited about Sweet Auburn BBQ’s Bao Night because we both added it to our database… it’s TODAY from 5pm til sold out. P.S. - They also just launched a $15 Monday Meal deal.

🥪 The Po’ Boy Shop in Decatur is celebrating its 8th birthday on Saturdaywith every regular-sized Po’Boy you buy during the party, you’ll score a $5 gift card good through Sept 30. Everyone knows about a Shrimp Po’Boy… but my favorite is the Roast Beef, aka Debris - James.

🥪 Mikkelson's Market added a Kaiser Breakfast Sammy to the menu: bacon or sausage, egg and cheese on a house-made kaiser bun.

🍔 Today I Learned… Buddy Buddy doesn’t have ketchup “because you don’t need it.”

🍗 The Earl dropped a Nashville Hot Fried Chicken Sandwich topped with pimento cheese and pickles.

🍖 The team behind Gunshow is bringing back their Terminus City BBQ pop-up Sundays through Tuesdays. Preview this Monday or Tues (8/17-8/18).

🦪 ATL Shuck Boyz are posted up at LikeMinds every Monday in August from 5-10pm, slinging oysters, caviar, snacks, and the original Camburger.

🎺 We're approaching final call for the Jordan Almond Latte and the rest of Finca to Filter's Picnic Party menu. Only a few weeks left.

🍊 Another last call: B-Side is retiring their Orange Creamsicle Latte, a fluff-topped mix of shaken espresso, vanilla, and orange. Iced only.

🌮 Every Tuesday is Taco Tuesday at Vela Park Food Works, with $3 tacos and $12 margs all day.

😍 Love it when bars celebrate their people… Whoopsie’s is saying goodbye to Isabel on Friday as she departs for a full time art career, and Moes and Joes is honoring one of its longtime patrons Cliff on Sunday.

🧀 Kinship dropped the Grilled Sheesh for a limited time: shishito relish, Zapps chips, Dukes mayo, lime, and white cheddar on Pullman brioche.

🍷 You had me at free wine… Vine Fine Wine has free tastings every Thursday in August and September. Today’s is an Angelo Negro from Italy but you can see the full schedule here.

🍷 Oh, did someone mention wine? Kelly’s Market is offering 5 wine and chip pairings for $20. Also today, also in Decatur.

🍶 Oh, did someone mention… Sake? While often referred to as a rice wine, it’s more in a category of it’s own. Learn more at Finally, Wine on Sunday.

🍈 Cantaloupe Sorbet is back on the menu at all Big Softie locations — inspired by flavors from their Summerhill neighbors Talat Market, made with cantaloupes from Love is Love Farm.

🍕 We just learned that Glide does cateringThe idea of 15 or 20 Glide pizzas in one room has me salivating -Connor

🍸 If you already know you’re gonna have a case of the Mondays coming up (or just want a great cocktail from some awesome women bartenders), plan ahead and get yourself to Banshee for a pop-up appearance from Burle’s Girls who are taking over the bar for Girl Bar ATL.

Introducing… Dakota

Neighborhood: Grant Park

About: Dakota is a special one - grew up in the Buford suburbs and now has embraced the city.

As a husky he loves to embrace his inner sled dog and pull dad all through his favorite park/iconic cemetery. Oakland of course (he gets upset on later potty trip since the cemetery closes at sundown).

He is actively in the dating world like his dad and embraces all (:

Fun Fact: Born in Mississippi (full-breed husky) and is considered “red” but he is a brown husky.

Thank you to Pierre for sharing Dakota with us.

If you want your pet featured in the Park Pet Supply Pet of the Week section of the Anthem, fill out this form!

🏘️ Village Studios is a new creative home for artists, performers, educators, entrepreneurs, nonprofits, and neighbors from every corner of Atlanta. They’re hosting an open house on 8/15 for anyone interested in getting involved.

🗑 Price of the trash is going up!? There’s a $53 million (🤯) budget shortfall for solid waste at the Atlanta Public Works Department, meaning trash pickup prices could go up by 23% by 2028.
